South Australian Climate Camp

This year Climate camps are happening all across the country and next month will see South Australians taking mass action at the destination of the world’s largest coal train: Port Augusta.

The Climate Camp is designed to engage anyone interested is the issues of climate change in acts of education, direct action, sustainable living and building a people’s movement to effectively tackle climate change.

Julia spoke to Brendan De Paor-Moore and Riley Ashton, two of the organisers of te Climate Camp. You can see the Climate Camp website here.

Avigail Abarbanel on Israel

As part of the activities for Israeli Apartheid Awareness week at the University of Adelaide, Action for Palestine was pleased to host Avigail Abarbanel to speak about Apartheid in Israel.

Avigail Abarbanel is a professional psychotherapist who was born in Israel and served for two years in the IDF. Her experience has greatly shaped her political views and she has been active in many campaigns against military injustice and human rights abuses in the Middle East and Australia. “Avaaz”, which means “voice” in many Asian, Middle Eastern and Eastern European languages is the name of the world’s largest global online civic advocacy organisation. The aim of Avaaz is to channel progressive international sentiment to oppose policies shaped by political elites and multinational corporations.

Ben Wikler is a campaign director for Avaaz.org where he oversees the coordination of activiam on climate change, global health and other issues.
